Ian Dolben

Ian works part time for the Environment Agency and has been a Governor, with experience of both secondary and primary school governance, for over twenty years. He is a Local Leader of Governance in York, and joined the Governors at Heworth school as Chair in 2015 to provide expertise at strategic level together with leadership and mentoring for the Heworth governors. As a Chair of Governors at a church primary he fully supports the values and ethos of the MAT. His previous experience as longstanding Chair of the governing body at a maintained secondary school which moved from “good” to “outstanding” during his tenure provides strategic school improvement expertise at governing body level. He values diversity, which means that he is determined to help maintain, protect and encourage the unique character of all the schools in the MAT, whatever their nature. He is committed to ensuring that education offers opportunities for children to grow and flourish. He is excited about the possibilities presented by the proposed MAT, especially that of Church and Community schools working together, and hopes his long experience will be of use to the Board of Directors. Ian is a scientist by training, is a Chartered Environmentalist, and holds a senior national role in the Environment Agency. He is a Fellow, Vice-President, former Chair and currently Director of Membership of the Institute of Fisheries Management. Ian is also a Board member of the Society for the Environment, and is an Assessor of Licensed Bodies for the Society.
